Situated in the sacred land of Mithila, in Bishaul (Bishoul Tatuaur) village of Darbhanga district, the Baba Siddheshwar Nath Temple is not merely a place of worship, but a living symbol of the region's cultural consciousness, spiritual heritage, and deep-rooted public faith. This revered Siddha Peeth is renowned for its divine influence, where devotees with utmost faith and devotion experience the fulfillment of their heartfelt wishes.
This holy temple was established by the great scholar, an eminent authority in Dharmashastra, and a devoted worshipper of Lord Shiva — Shri Siddheshwar Nath Mishra. According to traditional and epigraphic evidence, the consecration (Pran-Pratishtha) of the deities was performed in Shaka 1763, on an auspicious day of the bright fortnight of Chaitra, following proper scriptural ritual procedures. The temple enshrines the divine and rare idols of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati (in the form of the divine couple), along with Lord Ganesha. These sacred idols are believed to have been brought from Narmada Kund, the origin point of the Narmada River, thus elevating the spiritual significance of this site.
A deeply compelling account of the temple's origin is found in the work of Pandit Shri Savanand Jha. According to him, Siddheshwar Mishra was born in the illustrious Raghuvanshi Mishra lineage of Mithila's scholarly tradition. He was an unparalleled scholar of Nyaya (logic), Dharmashastra, and the Vedas and Vedangas. Comparable to Brihaspati in wisdom, he was a devoted worshipper of Goddess Janaki and Lord Shiva. Inspired by his deep devotion and spiritual discipline, he constructed this temple in his native village with the noble intent of public welfare, and ceremonially installed three sacred idols.
With the passage of time, this divine temple fell into a severely dilapidated condition. The premises turned into ruins, overgrown with trees and vegetation, and an atmosphere of fear discouraged people from even entering the site. Despite such adverse circumstances, the flame of devotion continued to burn through the unwavering faith of Shrimati Siddheshwari Devi, her sister Kameshwari Devi, and their father Bhairav Mishra, who continued daily worship of Lord Mahadev with steadfast dedication.
The revival of this sacred tradition was undertaken by Shri Vidyanand Jha, who also served as the President of the Mahashivratri festival. Around 1990–91, his attention was drawn to the neglected state of the temple, and he resolved to restore it. For this noble mission, he sought guidance from his Guru, Pandit Tilaknath Mishra, and began the restoration work under his direction.
The reconstruction was formally initiated by Dr. Shaliknath Mishra, the brother of Pandit Tilaknath Mishra. His deep spiritual conviction and inspiring assurance — that Lord Mahadev would surely bring this difficult resolution to success — became a source of strength for all involved. Despite limited initial resources, Shri Vidyanand Jha personally invested funds, later sustained through community contributions. People of Bishaul Tatuaur and nearby areas extended their full support — body, mind, and wealth. Villagers from Delhi, Kolkata and other cities also contributed generously.
The fruits of these tireless efforts were realized in 1992, when the Mahashivratri festival was celebrated for the first time with grand splendor. On this historic occasion, 108 young unmarried girls performed ritual worship, and 151 devotees brought holy Ganga water from Simaria to offer Jalabhishek to Lord Mahadev. Since then, this tradition has continued uninterrupted, and today the festival has become a major religious attraction in the Mithila region.
For over four decades, the temple has remained a vibrant center of Mahashivratri celebrations, featuring grand festivities, traditional Shiv Baraat, devotional bhajan-kirtan, and various religious rituals. Public representatives such as MLAs and MPs have contributed to additional buildings, while the village Mukhiya Shri Jivakant Mishra facilitated solar lighting and financial assistance from time to time. Baba Siddheshwar Nath Temple stands as a remarkable example of social unity, collective effort, and cultural renaissance.
मिथिला की पुण्यभूमि, दरभंगा जनपद के विशौल (बिशौल टटुआर) ग्राम में अवस्थित बाबा सिद्धेश्वर नाथ मंदिर केवल एक धार्मिक स्थल नहीं, बल्कि यह क्षेत्र की सांस्कृतिक चेतना, आध्यात्मिक परंपरा और लोकआस्था का जीवंत प्रतीक है। यह सिद्धपीठ अपने अलौकिक प्रभाव के लिए प्रसिद्ध है, जहाँ श्रद्धालु पूर्ण श्रद्धा एवं समर्पण के साथ उपस्थित होकर अपनी मनोकामनाओं की सिद्धि का अनुभव करते हैं।
इस पावन मंदिर की स्थापना महान विद्वान, धर्मशास्त्र के प्रकाण्ड पंडित एवं परम शिवभक्त श्री सिद्धेश्वर नाथ मिश्र द्वारा की गई थी। पौराणिक एवं शिलालेखीय प्रमाणों के अनुसार, शाके 1763, चैत्र शुक्ल पक्ष की पावन तिथि को धर्मशास्त्रीय विधि से यहाँ मूर्तियों की प्राण-प्रतिष्ठा सम्पन्न हुई। मंदिर में स्थापित भगवान शिव एवं माता पार्वती (शिव-दंपति) तथा भगवान गणेश की दिव्य एवं दुर्लभ मूर्तियाँ नर्मदा कुंड से लाई गई मानी जाती हैं।
पंडित श्री सदानंद झा द्वारा कृत ग्रंथ में इस मंदिर की स्थापना का अत्यंत प्रभावशाली वर्णन प्राप्त होता है। मिथिला की विद्वत् परंपरा में उत्पन्न रघुवंशी मिश्र कुल में जन्मे सिद्धेश्वर मिश्र न्याय, धर्मशास्त्र एवं वेद-वेदांगों के अद्वितीय ज्ञाता थे। वे बृहस्पति के समान विद्वान तथा भगवती जानकी और भगवान शिव के अनन्य उपासक थे। उनकी भक्ति और साधना से प्रेरित होकर उन्होंने लोककल्याण की भावना से अपने गृह ग्राम में मंदिर निर्माण कर, विधिवत् तीन दिव्य मूर्तियों की स्थापना की।
कालचक्र के प्रभाव से यह दिव्य मंदिर एक समय अत्यंत जर्जर अवस्था को प्राप्त हो गया। मंदिर परिसर खंडहर में परिवर्तित हो चुका था, वृक्ष-लताओं ने उसे आच्छादित कर लिया था, और भयवश सामान्य जन वहाँ जाने से भी कतराते थे। किंतु ऐसी विकट परिस्थिति में भी अटूट श्रद्धा की ज्योति जलाए रखने वालों में श्रीमती सिद्धेश्वरी देवी, उनकी बहन कामेश्वरी देवी तथा उनके पिता भैरव मिश्र का नाम अत्यंत श्रद्धा के साथ लिया जाता है।
इसी पावन परंपरा को पुनर्जीवित करने का संकल्प लिया श्री विद्यानंद झा ने। 1990-91 के आसपास उनकी दृष्टि इस जर्जर मंदिर पर पड़ी और उन्होंने इसके जीर्णोद्धार का दृढ़ निश्चय किया। अपने गुरु पंडित तिलकनाथ मिश्र से परामर्श प्राप्त कर उनके मार्गदर्शन में कार्यारंभ किया। मंदिर पुनर्निर्माण का शुभारंभ डॉ. शालिकनाथ मिश्र के करकमलों द्वारा हुआ।
प्रारंभ में सीमित संसाधनों के बावजूद, श्री विद्यानंद झा ने व्यक्तिगत रूप से धन लगाकर कार्य प्रारंभ किया, जिसे बाद में जनसहयोग द्वारा आगे बढ़ाया गया। बिशौल टटुआर ग्राम तथा आसपास के क्षेत्रों के लोगों ने तन-मन-धन से सहयोग किया। यहाँ तक कि दिल्ली, कोलकाता एवं अन्य नगरों में निवास कर रहे ग्रामवासियों ने भी इस पुण्य कार्य में अपना योगदान दिया।
अंततः इस अथक प्रयास का फल 1992 में प्राप्त हुआ, जब पहली बार महाशिवरात्रि महोत्सव अत्यंत भव्यता के साथ आयोजित किया गया। इस ऐतिहासिक अवसर पर 108 कुमारी कन्याओं द्वारा पूजन एवं 151 श्रद्धालुओं द्वारा सिमरिया से गंगाजल लाकर भगवान महादेव का अभिषेक किया गया। तभी से यह परंपरा निरंतर जारी है और आज यह महोत्सव मिथिला क्षेत्र का एक प्रमुख धार्मिक आकर्षण बन चुका है।
विगत चार दशकों से अधिक समय से यह मंदिर महाशिवरात्रि के भव्य आयोजन, पारंपरिक शिव बारात, भजन-कीर्तन तथा विविध धार्मिक अनुष्ठानों का केंद्र बना हुआ है। बाबा सिद्धेश्वर नाथ मंदिर न केवल आध्यात्मिक उन्नति का केंद्र है, बल्कि यह सामाजिक एकता, सामूहिक प्रयास और सांस्कृतिक पुनर्जागरण का भी अनुपम उदाहरण प्रस्तुत करता है।

अंततः एहि अथक प्रयासक फल 1992 मे प्राप्त भेल, जखन पहिल बेर महाशिवरात्रि महोत्सव अत्यन्त धूमधाम सँ आयोजित कएल गेल। 108 कुमारी कन्यासभ द्वारा पूजा-अर्चना कएल गेल आ 151 श्रद्धालुसभ द्वारा सिमरिया सँ गंगाजल आनिक भगवान महादेवक जलाभिषेक कएल गेल। तखन सँ ई परंपरा निरंतर जारी अछि।
